Our English curriculum is far-reaching. We will delve in various texts (poems, short stories, mythology, novels, and nonfiction), sharpen our writing skills, and work on the nuts and bolts (grammar, spelling, vocabulary, etc.). It should be noted that 30% of the Aspire, our newly adopted state assessment, will assess grammar. This is a drastic change from the Benchmark ACTAAP and PARCC tests. In addition, we will have many opportunities for listening and speaking. My usual homework assignment is to read 20-30 minutes each evening. IF a student has unfinished classwork, it is homework!
Through these processes, we will challenge our old ways of thinking, formulate new ideas, and make discoveries about the world in which we live.
